Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Feb. 8-10

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.

• A 31-year-old Canton man deemed responsible for causing a two-car accident at the corner of Interstate 75 and Adams Road on Friday night was arrested by Troy police for operating while intoxicated. Police said that following the accident, at about 11:43 p.m., the man was unable to correctly recite the alphabet and later breath-tested at .10 percent. The driver of the vehicle that had been struck complained of a minor injury but refused medical treatment.
• Troy police were called multiple times to investigate a car weaving in between lanes headed southbound on Rochester Road near Square Lake Road on Saturday at 5:07 p.m. An officer dispatched there found the car, but despite full lights and a siren, the driver appeared oblivious to police. Eventually, police said that the driver, a 50-year-old Rochester woman, stopped when the officer blocked her path. When police entered the car and turned off the ignition for her, they noted she "appeared lethargic and had a blank stare." Police also reported that anti-anxiety medication and painkillers were found in her purse. Charges are pending following a blood test at a nearby hospital.
• A 20-year-old Sterling Heights man was arrested by Troy Police on Sunday night at 11:46 p.m. and charged with charged with operating under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Police said that after the man had been pulled over for a red light violation at the corner of Interstate 75 and 14 Mile Road, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the car and the driver's bloodshot, glassy eyes. Police said that the driver refused to answer any questions and that they later found marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia in the car. The man was blood-tested and results are pending.
