Patch Readers Pick Ideal Quintet, Win DSO Tickets

Last week, we asked Patch readers to share their favorite musical instrument for a .

Eight of you shared your favorites, which ranged from string instruments to brass and even electric guitar.

The five Troy Patch winners — , , , and — chose a variety of orchestral instruments as their favorites, earning them each a pair of tickets to Thursday's DSO concert in Southfield.

"I love the French horn," Ponder commented.

"I love the trumpet," commented Forster, who said she has played trumpet for 18 years. "It can be loud and showy, quiet and melancholy, jazzy, pompous, supportive throughout and commanding. ... When the trumpets all rise and a tight fanfare sweeps over you, well, the whole audience shares in a good case of goose bumps."

Binkowski agreed, saying, "I'm also going with the trumpet, since I played it through college."

String instruments were also popular answers among readers.

"I love the piano, but hearing my son play his violin, and loving it, has swayed me to the violin!" Chinoski commented.
