VIDEO: Karl Schmidt Sworn in as Troy School Board Trustee
The 17-year resident and business owner was elected in November.

Troy resident was sworn in as the newest member of the Board of Education on Friday morning after in the Nov. 8 election. Judy Holmes, secretary to the board, administered the oath.
Schmidt, who owns a research firm in Troy, was accompanied by daughters Kristi, 18, and Chelsea, 21. Both daughters attended Troy schools and now at  Michigan State University.
"I'm just really excited, and I feel really honored to represent the community of Troy," Schmidt said. "I've got a lot to learn, and we've got a lot to learn this year.

"It's always exciting to have new people come onto the board," Superintendent Barbara Fowler said. "I'm sure he'll bring new ideas and some different skill."
Schmidt's daughters talked about how proud they are of their father.

"It's really exciting to have my dad, who's always been kind of opinionated, get in the ring and share what he has to offer," Chelsea Schmidt said.
"I'm really excited as well," Kristi Schmidt said. "I think he has a lot to offer."
