Loud Noise, Drunken Driving Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Auto/Vehicle Thefts

  • 2000 block of John R, between May 27-28, 10:30 p.m.–7:15 a.m.: Complainant reports that his black Nissan Armada was stolen from the parking lot.1000 block of John R, May 28-29, 7 p.m.–3 p.m.: The complainant’s silver Ford Escort was stolen from the west parking lot of his apartment complex.

Crash Investigations

  • I-75 and W. Big Beaver, May 28, 5:32 p.m.: Troy Officers responded to a parking lot near I-75 and Big Beaver Road on a hit and run accident report. The complainant stated he had been involved in a non-injury accident on I-75 and both involved vehicles exited the freeway and pulled into a parking lot. When he called the police to report the accident, the other driver got back into his vehicle and drove off. The complainant was able to record the vehicle’s license plate number. Oakland County Sheriff Department was contacted and responded to the home of the vehicle’s registered owner. The driver, a 51-year-old Lake Orion man, was detained until Troy Police could make the scene. He was arrested for driving while license suspended and leaving the scene of an accident. He has three prior convictions for driving while license suspended.
  • I-75 and W. Big Beaver, May 28, 6:06 p.m.: Troy Officers received a report a witness was following a vehicle which had fled after being involved in a non-injury accident on I-75. The witness reported the fleeing vehicle had pulled into a parking lot near the Crooks Road exit of I-75. Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver. The 47-year-old Southfield man admitted to being involved in an accident and stated he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was arrested for driving while license suspended and leaving the scene of an accident. He also has four outstanding warrants issued by other area departments.

Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud

  • 2000 block of Golfview, March 13: When the complainant received a Verizon bill in the mail, she contacted the company to advise them she did not have a Verizon account. She was informed someone in College Park, Maryland used her identity to open an account on March 13. Over $2,000 is due.
  • Henry Ford Medical Center, 2825 Livernois, May 29, 2:19 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the site when the pharmacy reported a woman was attempting to pick-up a fraudulent prescription. Following an investigation Troy Officers arrested the 50-year-old Farmington Hills woman forobtain medication by false pretenses. She admitted she was addicted to the medication and takes 30 pills a day. She found the doctor’s name and number in the phone book and called the prescription into the pharmacy pretending she worked for the doctor. The pharmacy called the doctor’s office to confirm the prescription and learned that it was fraudulent.
  • 6000 block of Forest Park, May 7-8: Complainant states his Capital One credit card number was used to make over $3,800 in fraudulent purchases. The purchases were made in Florida.
  • Livernois and W. Big Beaver, May 29, 11:23 p.m.: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle which was driving erratically and had its hazard lights on. The driver stated she was having transmission trouble. The officer determined her driver’s license was suspended and she had three outstanding warrants for her arrest. A Visa card and a sales receipt corresponding to the card were found in her purse. The card was not in the driver’s name. She told officers her daughter found the card several months ago. Officers were able to make contact with the true card holder and she stated she did not give anyone permission to obtain or use a credit card in her name. The driver, a 26-year-old Detroit resident, was arrested for driving while license suspended and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Drugs/Narcotics

  • Grandhaven and John R, May 29, 1:24 a.m.: After Troy Officers stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation, the front seat passenger was found to be in possession of marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia. Initially, the 45-year-old Detroit woman provided officers with a fake name. She was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and hinder and obstruct a police officer. She also has eight outstanding warrants issued by other are departments.
  • Harmony and Lakewood, May 31, 5:13 a.m.: Troy Officers responded to the area when a neighbor reported several suspicious persons walking between a car and Baker Middle School. Officers located the vehicle occupied by three males. Following an investigation two arrests were made. A 20-year-old Sterling Heights resident was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (prescription pain medication), possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A 19-year-old Troy resident was arrested for possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The third vehicle occupant was released at the scene.

Driving Under Influence of Alcohol/Drugs

  • I-75 and Fourteen Mile, May 27, 3:19 p.m.: A Troy Officer was dispatched to a report of a suspected drunk driver on I-75. The vehicle had already been involved in an accident in Madison Heights and was reportedly driving in all three lanes of the freeway. The officer located the vehicle when it exited the freeway at Rochester Road. The vehicle stopped for the red light at Big Beaver Road and the driver appeared to fall asleep. Approximately 30 seconds after the light cycled to green, the driver woke up and began driving. The officer observed the vehicle swerving over lane markers and performed a traffic stop. The driver, a 50-year-old Rochester man, admitted to taking prescription pain and anti-anxiety medication which he said may have affected his driving. He failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered and results are pending.
  • I-75 and Crooks, May 31, 12:56 a.m.: Troy Officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed nearly rear-end the vehicle in front of it. The high speed driver had to brake hard to avoid a collision. The vehicle was stopped and officers noted the driver appeared to be extremely intoxicated. The 26-year-old New Baltimore man smelled strongly of intoxicants, had very bloodshot/glassy eyes and extremely slurred speech. He was unable to recite the alphabet and did not want to attempt any sobriety tests, stating he knew he was too drunk. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath tests were .25 percent, more than three times the legal limit.
  • I-75 and W. Long Lake, May 31, 2:15 a.m.: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle he observed weaving. The vehicle was occupied by three males and smelled strongly of marijuana. When the officer asked where the marijuana was the driver stated they had smoked it all. The 19-year-old Hamtramck resident failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered and results are pending. The passengers in the vehicle were released without charges.

Larcenies

  • Drury Inn, 575 W. Big Beaver, May 26, 7-7:30 p.m.: The complainant accidentally left her purse in the dining room after eating. When she returned 30 minutes later, her purse was missing and had not been turned in.
  • 1000 block of Kirts, May 20-27: A blue Specialized Tarmac Comp bicycle was stolen from the complainant’s apartment basement storage locker.
  • Planet Fitness, 288 John R, May 27, 8:30 a.m.–9:50 p.m.: Complainant reports the Master lock was cut off his gym locker and his gym bag was stolen. The bag contained the complainant’s wallet, cell phone and keys. When the complainant cancelled his credit cards he learned that two of them had already been fraudulently used at gas stations in Detroit.
  • 1000 block of Picadilly, May 8, 6-10 p.m.: A package, containing cosmetics, was delivered to the home, but stolen from the front porch before the homeowner could retrieve it.
  • 2000 block of Somerset, May 26-28, 3 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: Complainant states the cable lock that secured his apartments basement storage locker was cut open. A red Rock Hopper bicycle and a suitcase filled with miscellaneous clothing were stolen.
  • 2000 block of Somerset, May 11-30: Complainant’s locked basement storage locker was broken into and a Kawasaki electric scooter bike was stolen.
  • Michigan Heart Group, 4600 Investment, May 22-23: Employee reports two laptop computers were stolen from an office closet. The office showed no signs of forced entry.
  • 1000 block of Axtell, May 22-30: The apartment resident’s basement storage locker was broken into and a men’s silver Trek bicycle was stolen.
  • 2000 block of Somerset, May 23-27: The apartment resident’s basement storage locker was broken into and a blue and black Trek Mountain bike was stolen.
  • 1000 block of Kirts, May 27, 10-10:20 a.m.: A Motobecane mountain bike and a samurai sword were stolen from the complainant’s secured basement storage locker.
  • 1000 block of Century, May 28, 6-9 p.m.: The complainant reports his daughter’s blue and white Trek mountain bike was stolen from the porch of their apartment building where it had been left unsecured.

Larcenies from Autos

  • Henry Ford Medical Center, 2825 Livernois, May 20, 10 a.m.–8:15 p.m.: The catalytic converter was cut off and stolen from the complainant’s Pontiac Montana.
  • Ryder Truck Rental, 755 Stephenson, May 26-27, 5 p.m.-9 p.m.: The complainant parked her 2012 Dodge Challenger at the business. When she returned to pick it up, all four wheels and tires had been stolen and the car was on cement blocks.
  • Somerset GMC, 1850 W. Maple, May 26-28, 11 a.m.-6 a.m.: All four wheels and tires were stolen from a 2013 GMC Yukon. The vehicle was left on blocks. The value of the stolen items is approximately $5,000.
  • 2000 block of John R, May 27-28, 6 p.m.-11:20 a.m.: The complainant left her purse in her car overnight. In the morning, she discovered the front passenger window of the vehicle had been smashed and her purse, and its contents, had been stolen.
  • 6000 block of Atkins, May 31, 2:23 p.m.: Troy Officers were dispatched to a larceny from an auto and assault in progress. Complainant reports he heard a car door close and when he looked outside he saw a man approach his home and try the door handles on two of his cars (doors were locked) before finding the door open on a third vehicle. The complainant woke up his son and they confronted the man while he was rummaging through the center console of the vehicle. The complainant grabbed the suspect who immediately punched the complainant in the face. The homeowner’s son was also assaulted by the suspect; however the father and son managed to detain the suspect until police arrived. Troy Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and found marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia inside. The 18-year-old Rochester Hills resident was charged with two counts of assault and battery, tampering with an automobile, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The complainant and his 20-year-old son sustained minor injuries.

Malicious Destruction of Property

1230 Chicago, May 28, 6-11:30 a.m.: Complainant reports while he was at work the hood of his vehicle was punctured by unknown means and scratched. There are no suspects.

Weapons Offenses

Stephenson and E. Maple, May 30, 12:14 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped to investigate a vehicle which they had observe park in the lot of a closed gas station. During the investigation, marijuana and a loaded handgun were found in the vehicle. The driver does not have a Concealed Pistol License. The 39-year-old Detroit man was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed Weapon.

Miscellaneous

St George Orthodox Church, 2160 E. Maple, May 30, 11:14 p.m.: Troy Officers responded to a neighbor’s complaint of excessive noise coming from the banquet facility. Twice this month officers have issued representatives of the church warnings reference loud music. After confirming the music was in violation of city ordinance, officers issued a facility representative a citation for loud noise.
