Man Accused of Arson After Home in Troy Found Burned

Terrell Albert Bishop faces charges of second-degree arson and aggravated stalking.

A Detroit man is accused of starting a fire last week at a home in Troy and stalking its homeowners.

Terrell Albert Bishop, 35, of Detroit, was arraigned on Monday at Troy's 52-4 District Court on one count of arson in second degree, a maximum 20-year felony, and one count of aggravated stalking, a maximum five-year felony.

Police were called to the 100 block of Sheffield Drive on Friday on a report of an arson in progress at a home whose owner previously reported attempted arson threats and stalking at the home by the homeowner's daughter’s ex-boyfriend — identified as Bishop.

The homeowner and his daughter told police they found Bishop on the front porch pouring liquid out of a bottle at the front door where the fire was started and that seconds later, Bishop holding a bottle with flames coming from the top.

When Bishop saw the pair, they said, he dropped the bottle and he fled on foot. With the fire continuing to develop, the father had the daughter and her child exit to the rear while the father exited and used a garden hose to extinguish the fire, police said.

Officers arrived and noticed a strong smell of smoke and chemicals.  Officers also saw fire and smoke damage around the front door and inside the house, smoke and chemical smells which came from the front door.

Investigators worked through the evening trying to find Bishop, eventually arresting him with help from Troy Road Patrol Officers at 12 noon on Saturday in Madison Heights.

Bond was set at $150,000 with no 10 percent provision. Bishop's next court date is scheduled at 52-4 District Court at 8:30 a.m. on June 17 before Judge William E. Bolle.
