Drunken Driving and More Recent Troy Crime News: Jan. 30-Feb. 3

The following is a recap of recent news from the Troy Police Department.
Operating While Intoxicated
Crooks and Square Lake, at 11:49 p.m. on Feb. 1
A Troy Officer pulled over to check on a vehicle stopped in a travel lane of Crooks Road. The driver indicated he had been on his way home from a fast food establishment when his car broke down. The officer noted that the driver had very glassy, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants.According tot he report, when asked if he thought he should be driving, the 37-year-old replied, "Maybe not." After performing very poorly on sobriety tests, the Troy resident was arrested for "Operating While Intoxicated." Breath test results were .19 percent. The legal limit is 0.8.

Crooks and Big Beaver, at 1:14 p.m. on Feb. 2
Troy Officers were dispatched to the area after a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and made contact with the driver. The 39-year-old had bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled of intoxicants. When asked how much he had to drink, he replied, "a lot." After demonstrating poor balance and failing sobriety tests the Troy resident was arrested for "Operating While Intoxicated." He has one prior drinking and driving conviction and his license is currently suspended. He had been charged with "Operating While Intoxicated second offense" and "Driving While License Suspended second offense." Breath test results were .14 percent.Â

14 Mile and John R, at 3:18 a.m. on Feb. 3
After Troy Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation they found that the driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and bloodshot, glassy eyes. The 34-year-old male from Clawson failed sobriety tests and faces charges of "Operating While Intoxicated." Breath test results were .12 percent. The legal limit is .08.

Police responded to Skateworld (2825 E. Maple), where it was reported that an 11-year-old girl's Apple iPod, cell phone, and cash were stolen from an unsecured locker, between 7-11 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Polce responded to Macy's (500 W. 14 Mile), where it was reported that a man's cell phone was stolen from a fitting room when he left it there alone between 2:30-2:35 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Larcenies from Autos
Police responded to Suburban Cadillac Buick (1810 Maplelawn) , where a business representative said that a salt spreader controller and a hand held plow controller were stolen from a company vehicle overnight between Jan. 30-31.
Malicious Destruction of Property
Police arrested a juvenile girl at Skateworld after she threw a pool ball at a crane game about 9 p.m. on Feb. 2. She was later charged with malicious destruction of property, according to police.
Retail Fraud
Police arrested two males, 18- and 17-years old, on charges of "Retail Fraud III" after being accused of taking $103 worth of clothing from Kohl's (500 John R) at 7:02 p.m. on Feb. 1.
Police arrested a 42-year-old man from Detroit on "Retail Fraud I" charges after he was seen attempting to steal four shirts worth $540 from Macy's on Feb. 2. He had put all four shirts on under his own clothing and attempted to leave the store without paying for them.Â
A 20-year-old woman from Detroit was given a citation for "Retail Fraud III" after she was seen attempting to steal three pairs of pants and a shirt worth $88.49 from Macy's on Feb. 3.
Assaults
Police responded to Skateworld, where it was reported that a 14-year-old girl had been outside of the building when, at 11:21 p.m. on Feb. 1, she was assaulted by two other girls, sustaining a minor injury.
