Poll: Are Women Better Drivers than Men?
A new study shows that men are 80 percent more likely to cause serious or fatal crashes than women.

Online insurance quotes provider 4autoinsurancequote.org released a new study Friday showing that women are less likely to cause auto accidents than men and far less likely to cause fatal or serious accidents.
The study compares traffic violation, accident and insurance price statistics between men and women. According to the study, 80 percent of all car accidents that are either fatal or produce serious injuries are caused by male drivers. Meanwhile, women are 27 percent less likely than men to cause auto accidents. In 2007, statistics from the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal men were involved in 6.1 million car accidents while women were only involved in 4.4 million.
"As a man, it's tough to admit," 4autoinsurancequote CEO James Shaffer said in a press release, "but if you look at the statistics, females are better drivers ... by a long shot."

The insurance quote company also looked at average auto insurance prices for men and women to see if the insurance companies agreed with their hypothesis. They found that in the United States, the average six-month policy for a man is $765; for a woman, it's $698.
"It's almost scary how bad the average American man is at driving," Shaffer said. "Blame it on whatever you want – high testosterone, higher propensity to take risks, or higher levels of aggression – but the fact remains: men simply make too many mistakes behind the wheel.”
