Put on Your Bell Bottoms and Sequins, Troy - This is the Weekend!

Here are five options for you in the city this weekend, including the disco-themed fundraiser to fight homelessness on Friday.

I can hear your giant sigh of relief. It's Friday! The weekend is here. All week long we have been counting down the days to help you plan your weekend with options of events to attend.

"Boogie Bowl: Striking Out Homelessness" Disco Fundraiser

  • When: 7-11 p.m. on Friday
  • Where: Thunderbird Lanes (400 W. Maple Rd., Troy)
  • Cost: Tickets are $35 per bowler and include three games of bowling, shoe rental, complimentary pizza and soft drinks. Non-bowlers can participate for $15 and all guests have the opportunity to enter raffles and contests, including "Best Costume."
  • Why Go: Oakland County's oldest and largest homeless shelter, Grace Centers of Hope, hosts the fifth-annual "Boogie Bowl" for anyone 21 years of age or older. Proceeds benefit the life-saving programs and services provided to the homeless men, women and children at Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac. 

Lisa Brown Hosts Passport Day

  • When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
  • Where: 1200 N Telegraph Rd., Pontiac, MI 48341 (Use the North entrance)
  • Cost: $10 (to have passport picture taken on-site)
  • Why Go: "We’re giving Oakland County citizens an opportunity to access passport services on the weekend, just in time for peak travel season," said Lisa Brown, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds, who will be there to kick off the event. "It’s about making our services more convenient for our residents."

March 9th Mom-to-Mom Sale

  • When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday
  • Where: Zion Christian Church (3668 Livernois Rd., Troy)
  • Cost: $1
  • Why Go: Mom-to-Mom sales are one way for parents to network — plan planning playdates to seeking advice — as well as save money. This sale in Troy features more than 100 tables filled with children’s clothing, books and toys. If you want to get first crack at the goods, an early bird sale will take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m. for $2. Strollers are welcome!

2013 Youth Mission Team Dinner/Auction

  • When: 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: First United Methodist Church of Troy (6363 Livernois Rd., Troy)
  • Cost: $13 per adult, $3 per child (3-10 years)
  • Why Go:  For the past eight years, the Troy community has supported the First United Methodist Church youth mission trip with an exciting dinner/silent auction. This Sunday, veteran auctioneer Beth Mosshart will offer an all-day sailboat ride, theatre tickets, restaurant gift cards, and much more.

Maple Syrup Time: Past and Present

  • When: 9 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center (6685 Coolidge Hwy., Troy)
  • Cost: $7 (TNS/THS member price: $6)
  • Why Go:  Learn how people from Native Americans to 21st Century tech-savvy-sap-tappers have harvested it to make maple syrup and taste fresh syrup over warm mini-waffles. Hike through sugar bush to see how sap is collected and discover how maple trees make sugar. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available. Register at troynaturesociety.org or call (248) 688-9703.
