Retail Fraud, Drunken Driving Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

  • Chicago and E. Maple., at 5:50 a.m. on May 31: Troy Officers were dispatched to the intersection on report of an injury accident. Officers determined a vehicle traveling northbound on Chicago had failed to stop for a flashing red light and had struck a vehicle which was westbound on Maple. The driver of the westbound vehicle was transported to an area hospital by family members. The at-fault driver was not injured. The 49-year-old Madison Heights male had slurred speech and appeared to be confused. He had trouble staying awake and admitted to being "heavily medicated." After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs. A blood test was administered and results are pending. 
  • Allegheny and Fairfield, at 2:33 a.m. on June 1: A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area when a complaint was received in which a vehicle was driving recklessly through the subdivision and the driver was yelling out the window. The vehicle was located and stopped. The driver stated that he was trying to find his girlfriend who had gotten lost after he let her out of the car to urinate. The driver had slurred speech, glassy/blood eyes and smelled of intoxicants. He failed sobriety tests and marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia were found in this vehicle. The 25-year-old Sterling Heights resident was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Breath test results were .15 percent. At about that same time, a neighbor called to report a female was crying and trying to get into his home through the sliding patio door. It was determined the woman was the suspect’s girlfriend and she thought she lived at the home. She was transported to the police station and made arrangements for a ride home.   
  • Interstate-75 and W. 14 Mile, at 2:48 a.m. on June 2: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle they observed driving erratically. The driver had very badly slurred speech, bloodshot/glassy eyes and smelled of intoxicants. The 30-year-old Clawson resident exhibited poor balance and failed sobriety tests. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .13 percent.   
  • Interstate-75 and Rochester, at 2:27 a.m. on June 3: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle which was not maintaining its lane of travel and repeatedly crossed lane markers on both the right and left. The driver stated that he was weaving because he was drunk and underage. The 18-year-old Hamtramck resident smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and very bloodshot/glassy eyes. He was unable to correctly recite the alphabet. Officers arrested him for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .13 percent.  
Larcenies 
  • 2000 block of Dorchester, between May 2-3: Apartment resident states that a package left on his front porch by UPS was stolen before he could retrieve it. The package contained a $300 clothing item.
  • 1000 block of Kirts, between 12 noon and 2 p.m. from May 26-31: Apartment resident reports that the padlock was cut off her basement storage locker and a green men’s Genesis 26 inch bicycle was stolen.    
  • 1000 block of Somerset, between 6 p.m. and 12 noon from May 28-June 1: Apartment resident reports his basement storage locker was broken into and a white Specialized Roubaix bicycle was stolen. The pins holding the storage locker’s door to the wall had been removed. 
  • Troy Community Center (3179 Livernois Rd.), between 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on June 1: Complainant secured his personal belongings in a gym locker with a combination lock and went to work out. After working out, he discovered his wallet had been stolen from the locker. The wallet contained cash, six credit cards, and the complainant’s social security card and driver’s license.
  • 1000 block of Kirts, from May 27-June 1: Apartment resident reports her white Columbia Comfort Series bicycle was stolen from her secured basement storage locker. 
Larcenies from autos
  • Marriott Hotel (200 W. Big Beaver), between 6:15-11:15 p.m. on May 31: A Troy Officer met with two individuals whose vehicles had been broken into. The driver’s side rear window of a Cadillac SRX was broken and a pair of prescription sunglasses was stolen. The second vehicle also had a window broken out. Cash and a leather jacket were stolen from the Saturn Vue.  
Malicious destruction of property
  • Kohl's (1265 Coolidge Hwy.), 11 a.m.12:18 p.m. on May 31: Complainant reports the left rear quarter panel of her vehicle was “keyed”/scratched. 
Retail fraud 
  • Kohl's (500 John R) at 5:44 p.m. on May 31: Kohl’s Loss Prevention contacted police dispatch and reported a male had stolen 2 tank tops and a pair of shorts. When they attempted to detain the man he ignored them and got into his vehicle and drove away. Troy Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The 19-year-old Saint Clair Shores resident was arrested for retail fraud. The stolen merchandise was recovered from his vehicle and returned to the store.   
  • Footaction (614 W. 14 Mile), at 12:20 p.m. June 2: Police Dispatch received a phone call from Mr Alan’s (348 W. 14 Mile), reporting a retail fraud had just occurred in their store, however, the suspect left before he could be apprehended. Mall Security was notified and found the suspect inside of Footaction. After he left that store, management realized he had stolen a Nike t-shirt. A Troy Officer stopped the suspect in the parking lot as he was driving away. He initially provided a false name to the officer. When he was fingerprinted his true identity was revealed. A store employee at Mr Alan’s was interviewed and stated the suspect stole three shirts and a pair of shorts from their store. The merchandise stolen at Foot Action and Mr Alan’s was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was charged with two counts of retail fraud, driving while license suspended and hinder and obstruct a police officer by false identification. A 22-year-old Warren man, who was a passenger in the car, was arrested for possession of marijuana.
