UPDATE: Rochester Road Closed Through Rush Hour; Power Restored

The road has been closed north of Square Lake Road since late Wednesday night, when a driver struck and damaged a large utility pole.

Rochester Road remains closed just north of Square Lake Road as of 5 p.m. Thursday while crews replace a large utility pole that was severely damaged late Wednesday night when it was struck by a vehicle, Troy police said. 

DTE Energy – which Thursday afternoon as crews worked to replace the pole and repair power lines – has yet to re-open the road, though power has been restored to the neighborhoods.

Re-opening the road "could be a few more hours," according to an email message from the City of Troy sent late Thursday afternoon.

The road was first closed Wednesday evening as the result of a vehicle collision.

"At 11 p.m. last night, a person driving on Rochester Road had a seizure and crashed into a big electrical pole," Lt. Bob Redmond, public information officer for the Troy Police Department, said Thursday morning. "They’re still doing repairs."

The driver was traveling southbound on Rochester Road just north of Square Lake Road when he lost control, rear ended another vehicle, ran down several mailboxes and a street sign and collided with the utility pole, breaking it off at the base. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, according to Troy Police.

Redmond said the driver of the vehicle is "going to be alright" after two college students and a teenager , pulling him from the vehicle after the accident, according to an article in The Oakland Press. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
