Scholarship Awarded to Athens Grad Studying Education

The Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Sorority of Women Educators, recently announced that Nicole Ragnoni is the recipient of the Alpha Delta Kappa Ruth Wass Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to seniors in the Troy School District who plan to major in education.

Nicole, the daughter of Lisa Bontsas, is a 2013 graduate of Athens High School and will attend Michigan State University in the fall. She will be majoring in special/elementary education.  Nicole has been a member of the National Honor Society. She has volunteered in the children’s programs at her church.

This Alpha Delta Kappa scholarship is named in honor of Ruth Wass, a charter member of the Alpha Upsilon chapter which was founded in 1964. Ruth, who turned 100 in May, spent 45 years in education and retired in 1978 as Director of Reading for the Troy School District. Wass Elementary is named in her honor.
