UPDATE: 5-8 Inches of Snow Coming; Winter Storm Warning Issued

Heavy snowfall overnight will make the morning commute very hazardous, says the National Weather Service.

Updated at 7:30 p.m.: A winter storm is on its way to southeastern Michigan, and it could dump as much as eight inches of snow on Troy by Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. Friday. Snow will develop later this evening and become heavy at times between midnight and 8 a.m., according to the weather service.

Snow accumulation of 5-8 inches is expected in Troy with the northern part of the city possibly experiencing higher accumulations. The morning commute will be very hazardous, and motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

In addition to the snowfall, winds up to 30 mph on Friday will cause blowing and drifting snow, which poses an additional hazard to motorists.
