Oakland Co. Teen, Jailed For Not Doing Homework, Off Probation
The girl was on probation after she was charged with assault in 2019. A judge said she violated her probation by not doing her homework.
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — An Oakland County teen who was jailed after a judge said she violated her probation by not doing her online homework has been released from probation, over a week after the Michigan Court of Appeals ordered the girl be released from jail.
The 15-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released but who has been referred to as 'Grace,' was released from probation following a court hearing Tuesday morning before Oakland County Judge Marry Ellen Brennan, The Detroit News reported.
The girl had been released from the Oakland County Michigan Children Village Detention Center and into the custody of her mother July 31, following a ruling by the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Grace was placed in the juvenile facility in May after failing to complete class assignments from Groves High School in Beverly Hills after the school switched to online learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Brennan ruled that the girl failed to submit schoolwork, and did not get up for school.
On May 14, Brennan ordered Grace to Children's Village Detention Center in Pontiac.

Michigan Liberation Action Fund and other community organizations have held several protests demanding accountability.
