These Were Your Ideas for This Vacant Building in Troy
Troy Patch readers suggested a grocery chain move into the former SYMS outlet in the Troy Commons strip mall.

Troy residents and Patch readers offered insight and articulate opinions all day when we asked what they would like to see at a large commercial vacancy.
The Troy Commons strip mall used to be home of a SYMS outlet (901 E. Big Beaver Rd., Troy) before the retail clothing chain went out of business in 2011. Readers said that location could be an issue:
Perhaps a Dollar Tree!! There are so few $$$ stores in Troy and I bet that particular one would be able to become THE anchor store for that strip mall-I used to love to shop there, Carters, Hallmark, and other stores plus Panerra-Now it's just Carters and Panerra-Oh and the boat store!! A grocery store didn't make it there-If I remember there have been at least two- — Barbara Koehn

No store has been able to make it in that space. Years ago there was a box grocery (like Sam's Club or Costco) and that didn't make it. There was some other clothing store too, if I remember correctly. Don't know what it is about that strip mall, but stores do not do well there. — Peoplearenuts

A grocery store would be fab!! — Sally Nelson
Aldi's should go in there. The previous store was Chatham's and dependent on your age you wouldn't even remember the chain. The whole chain went bust so I'm not sure it has anything to do with that particular location. It used to be quite busy since that one was run on the box store concept and did not have all the usual amenities of grocery stores like Kroger, etc. — chris murray
I keep hoping that the old K-Mart will be turned into a big Whole Foods to replace the tiny one at 15 and Coolidge. — Christine Bender
