These Were Your Ideas for This Vacant Building in Troy
Troy Patch readers suggested an IKEA or CJ Barrymore's move into the former Kmart on Maple Road.

Troy residents and Patch readers offered insight and articulate opinions all day when we asked what they would like to see at a large commercial vacancy.
When points of entry to Troy come to mind, we'd like to remember those of which we are most proud, such as the Oakland-Troy Airport or the Beaumont Hospital of Troy.

Readers said that location could be an issue:
I would love for them to do some sort of improvement to the old Kmart and the shopping center south of it! I always tell people I live in the part of Troy that Troy forgets is Troy and I think these two pieces of real estate are perfect examples. — Amanda Ulch (Via Facebook)

Everything over there looks so terribly old and dated I think that and some of the eyesore on Livernois just south of this building should be leveled and it might be more enticing for something to come along. It's not always easy to take an old building and make it work. A major grocery store is missing in that part of town. There were a wide range of suggestions for a retail location to fill the spot:
We need activities for kids to do such as indoors and outdoors ( CJ Barrymore type thing) or IKEA! — Heather Wilson
Trader Joe's, Kroger, or IKEA, a movie theater... — e
If they take over the Big Lots property beyond the old Kmart borders, it could be an IKEA!! — Sarah
They should just leave it and turn it in to a flea market/ farmers market — Samantha Pena (Via Facebook)
Ikea!!!! — Rachel Habbel Hullinger (Via Facebook)
Grocery store. — Gina Mancini Olsztyn (Via Facebook)
farmers market!!!! — Gretchen Bovensiep (Via Facebook)
Ikea — Namratha Kamath Prabhu (Via Facebook)
