Troy Man Arraigned On Charges Of Arson, Home Invasion: Police

Police said witnesses reported the man was walking naked around the neighborhood with an AR-15 prior to the crimes.

TROY, MI — A Troy man has been accused by Oakland County prosecutors of breaking into a home, resisting arrest and walking naked around his neighborhood while carrying an AR-15, police said Monday.

Alexander James Raymond, 31, was arraigned Sunday while at a local hospital on charges of third-degree home invasion, fifth-degree arson and three counts of resisting/obstruction police. Raymond was given a $100,000 bail, police said.

According to the Troy Police Department, officers arrested Raymond around 8 a.m. Saturday after responding to a report of a fire alarm and smoke being detected at a residence in the 1900 block of Somerset.

Police said they were originally responding for the fire alarm, but once on scene noticed a bloody scene on an apartment deck, including a large, bloody kitchen knife and an open door with a ripped screen. A trail of blood led to a nearby apartment building where officers said they discovered a trail of blood and broken glass that led to an open apartment where they found Raymond.

Officers said they were met by Raymond, who was naked, covered in blood, screaming and with a towel wrapped around one of his hands. When police told the man to leave the apartment, they said he slammed and locked the door. Officers said they forced the door to apartment open and attempted to handcuff Raymond, but he resisted. Raymond was tasered by police, but still got up, charged at the officers and tried to escape, according to police. Another officers used a taser on Raymond and arrested him, police said.

Paramedics were called to the scene to treat Raymond, who police said had suffered a thumb injury prior to the officers' arrival, as well as to evaluate the man's agitated state. Police said Raymond was sedated and taken to a local hospital.

During the investigation, Troy dispatch received one call about a man walking around the area "acting strangely" and carrying an AR-15 assault rifle, according to police.

Police said additional investigation revealed that Raymond broke into an apartment and tried to set a fire by placing flammable items on a stove burner. Police found a bloody rifle in the apartment and said the apartment's resident was not home at the time. Raymond chose that particular apartment at random, police said.
