Drunken Driving, Larcenies Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Â
Breaking and entries
Three Oaks Apartments (4154 Three Oaks), between 5 p.m. May 18 and 11:10 a.m. May 19:Â The door leading from the community workout room to the main office was kicked open. At this time, it does not appear that anything was stolen.Â
Drugs/narcoticsÂ
W. Big Beaver Rd. Rd. and Cunningham Dr., at 9:50 p.m. on May 17: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle that was traveling without any headlights. The driver did not have his license with him and provided officers with a name and date of birth which was later determined to be fraudulent. When his true identity was determined, the 22-year-old Clinton Township resident was arrested for driving while license suspended and hinder and obstruct a police officer by false identification. Officers discovered a passenger in the vehicle, a 22-year-old Sterling Heights male, had a baggie of drugs hidden in his pants. He was arrested and charged with possession of heroin. He has a lengthy criminal history and is currently on parole.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs
- Dequindre Rd. and E. South Blvd., at 10:33 p.m. on May 17: A Troy Officer stopped a vehicle observed failing to stop for an emergency vehicle. When the cars in front of it stopped, the vehicle was forced to swerve to avoid a collision. The driver, a 51-year-old Madison Heights male, smelled of intoxicants and failed three sobriety tests. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .22 percent. He has one prior drunk driving conviction.
- Dequindre Rd. and E. Wattles Rd., at 2:12 a.m. on May 18: Troy Officers were dispatched to the area to locate a suspected drunk driver called in by a concerned citizen. An officer located the vehicle and confirmed it was driving erratically. The vehicle was stopped and the officer noted the driver had glassy/bloodshot eyes and smelled of intoxicants. After failing sobriety tests, the 21-year-old Detroit man was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .15 percent.
- Interstate-75 and E. Big Beaver Rd., at 2:43 a.m. on May 18:Â A citizen called Troy Police and stated that he was following a possible drunk driver who kept swerving off the roadway and onto the shoulder and was driving at speeds fluctuating between 30 and 70 miles per hour. The vehicle was located and stopped by Troy Officers. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and was unable to correctly recite the alphabet. The 47 year-old Sylvan Lake resident had very poor balance and failed sobriety tests. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .19 percent.
- Rochester Rd. and Stephenson Hwy., at 11:29 p.m. on May 18: Officers were dispatched to the area on a citizen report of a suspected drunk driver. A Troy Officer located and stopped the suspect vehicle after observing it run a red light. The driver had such slurred speech the officer had a difficult time understanding her. The 22-year-old Detroit resident smelled strongly of intoxicants and had very bloodshot/glassy eyes. After performing poorly on sobriety tests, she was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .18 percent.Â
- E. Maple Rd. and John R Rd., at 2:50 a.m. on May 19:Â Troy Officers responded to the area when a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at high rate of speed and was all over the roadway. Officer located the vehicle and confirmed it was swerving. The vehicle was stopped and officers noted that the driver smelled of intoxicants and had very bloodshot and glassy eyes. Following an investigation, the 76-year-old Troy male was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A blood test was administered and results are pending. Officers spoke with the witness who initially reported the drunk driver. He stated that the suspect vehicle was all over the roadway and that he had to drive onto the gravel shoulder of the roadway to avoid being struck by the suspect vehicle.Â
- Interstate-75Â and W. 14 Mile Rd., at 12:33 a.m. on May 20:Â After a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver on I-75 a Troy Officer was dispatched to the area. The officer located the vehicle and observed it driving half in the center lane and half in the left lane. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 46-year-old male from Warren, had bloodshot/glassy eyes and slurred speech. After failing sobriety tests, he was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .19 percent.
- Paris Dr. and Milverton Dr., at 1:54 a.m. on May 20: Troy Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious auto parked and running in a residential neighborhood. An officer located the vehicle and made contact with the driver. She smelled of intoxicants, had bloodshot/glassy eyes and was unable to correctly recite the alphabet. The 19-year-old Madison Heights resident had poor balance and failed sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated and breath test results were .13 percent. The 19-year-old has one prior drinking and driving conviction.
- Interstate-75Â and Coolidge Hwy., at 2:34 a.m. on May 20:Â A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area after a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver swerving from shoulder-to-shoulder and traveling well below the speed limit. A Troy Officer located the vehicle, confirmed it was swerving and performed a traffic stop. The driver smelled of intoxicants and had glassy/bloodshot eyes. The 36-year-old male from Detroit failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .17 percent.Â
Larcenies
- Collision Protection Sciences (1893 Birchwood Dr.), between Nov. 1, 2012 and Jan. 29, 2013:Â Sometime over the winter, a brass and copper lawn sprinkler valve was stolen from the exterior of the building.
- 2000 block of Somerset Blvd., between 10 a.m. May 1 and noon May 17: Complainant reports a red Cannondale 10 speed mountain bicycle was stolen from her apartment’s basement storage locker.
- Midwest Video Company (1515 Souter Dr.), between 10 p.m. May 13 and 4 a.m. May 14: Copper piping, which is part of the building’s sprinkler system, was stolen overnight.
- 2000 block of Roundtree Dr.: The complainant has his medication delivered to his home. When he didn’t receive it, he contacted his pharmacy and they advised him that the package had been left at his front door on May 15 at 2:04 p.m.
- 4000 block of Bristol Dr., between 9 p.m. May 10 and noon May 11: The complainant’s children left their bicycles outside overnight. The next day, the complainant discovered both bikes had been stolen and a pink and gray girl’s mountain bike had been left behind.Â
- 5000 block of Clearview at between 12:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on May 19:Â Complainant reports a Cub Cadet self-propelled lawn mower was stolen from his front yard.Â

Larcenies from autos
- Candlewood Suites (2550 Troy Center Dr.), between 11:30 p.m. May 17 and 1 a.m. May 18: The driver’s side rear window was broken on the complainant’s Chevrolet Silverado and her purse, containing three credit cards, was stolen.Â
- 1000 block of Wesley Dr., between 11 p.m. May 18 and 10 a.m. May 19:Â Complainant reports that her unlocked vehicle was entered and her purse, identification, credit cards, GPS unit, fur coat and costume jewelry was stolen.
Malicious destruction of property
500 block of Burtman Dr., between 11:30 p.m. May 17 and 4 a.m. May 18: The door lock on the complainant’s Chrysler Town and Country minivan was punched and pried away from the vehicle body and the ignition was punched. The damage was likely sustained during an unsuccessful attempt to steal the vehicle.Â

Retail fraudÂ
- Kohl's (1265 Coolidge Hwy.), at 12:25 p.m. on May 18:Â A 52-year-old male from Detroit was arrested for retail fraud after shoplifting twelve pieces of store merchandise with a total retail value of $405. The 52-year-old has an extensive criminal history and is currently wanted for a Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Violation.Â
- Nordstrom (2850 W. Big Beaver Rd.), at 1:36 p.m. on May 19:Â Two 17-year-old females, one from Dearborn, the other a Southfield resident, were detained after shoplifting five pieces of merchandise with a total retail value of $148.88. The teens were issued citations for retail fraud and released at the scene.Â
- JCPenney (700 W. 14 Mile Rd.), at 4:45 p.m. on May 19:Â A 16-year-old female from Detroit was detained after shoplifting four shirts, a dress, and a pair of shorts, a bra and eight pairs of underwear. She was wearing all eight pairs of underwear when stopped by Loss Prevention. The other merchandise had been concealed in her purse. The teen was turned over to a parent and will be petitioned to Probate Court.
