U-Haul Temporarily Closed for Hazardous Materials Leak

The Troy Fire Department helped stop a propane leak at the moving and storage facility on Sunday.

Quick reactions from employees at a local U-Haul moving and storage facility, as well as the Troy Fire Department, helped stop a propane leak on Sunday morning.

U-Haul, located at 1250 W. Maple Rd., east of Crooks in Troy was closed for business until the leak was stopped and then re-opened for rentals only following the incident.

Firefighters from Station 3 arriving at about 7:47 a.m. encountered a 1,600 gallon liquid propane filling tank with vapors coming from a purge vent. Under the protection of a hose line, firefighters were able to locate and close a purge valve that was in the open position, stopping the leak.
