'Now, it's time to get on to business,' said Slater, following victory in the May 7 special election.
Dane Slater was sworn in as Mayor of Troy on Monday following victory in the May 7 special election last week.
"I am very humbled to be elected Mayor of Troy, the best city in Michigan," Slater said, thanking family in attendance and at home in addition to campaigners and supporters.

Slater topped a six-person field with 50.39 percent of the vote, or 6,393 votes overall. Marty Knollenberg, who was Slater's closest competition by a wide margin, registered 44.88 percent of the vote, or 5,820 votes overall.
Knollenberg spoke during the public comment portion of Monday's meeting, to offer congratulations to Slater and speak out against "third-party, negative activities" in days leading up to the election.

"These third-party activities hurt my campaign," Knollenberg said.
Slater presided over Monday's Troy City Council meeting, where he was no stranger to the seat, having been appointed mayor following the Nov. 7 ousting of former Mayor Janice Daniels.
Slater will serve through 2015.
