You Voted: Troy Auto Care is 2012 Best Car Repair Shop

Out of 22 Troy car repair shops on , nabbed an impressive 51 percent of 101 total votes in our unscientific poll, officially making Troy Auto Care the 2012 Best Car Repair Shop in Troy.

Troy Auto Care co-owner Don Hudson, whose father opened the business in 1958, said Friday afternoon that he was pleased to hear Troy Patch readers voted for his business, adding that its customer service is something they are proud of.

"We give the customers the best service," Hudson said, adding that his business is not out to overcharge customers. "I sell the customer what they need – not what they want. ... We're honest, and we're AAA approved."

"They do fantastic work and have great customer service!" Andy Bezenah commented on Troy Patch.

Hudson, who owns the business with his brother, Frank Hudson, said he owes a lot of the business' ongoing success to longtime family friend, Denny Robinson, who has since retired to Las Vegas. "We owe him a lot for his marketing and making us successful," Hudson said.

Hudson said his business – which has 25 employees, 13 tow trucks and a lot of repeat customers – boasts a 93.6 percent customer satisfaction rating from AAA. It also works with students from Roseville High School through an apprenticeship program.

To help give back to the Troy community, Hudson said customers whose children attend can choose a school to which 10 percent of their total will be donated through Troy Auto Care's Community Rewards program.

"I just made out a check to for $189," said Hudson, who is also captain of Fire Station No. 1 in Troy, a volunteer Macomb County Sheriff's deputy and an instructor at Oakland Community College.

When asked why he enjoys having a business in Troy, Hudson's answer was simple.

"There is no other city besides Troy," he said. "We've got the best people, the best schools, the best police department, the best fire department – it's just the best."
