Will Justin Verlander win the American League Most Valuable Player Award?

The answer will be revealed later Monday when the Baseball Writers Association of America announces the winner of the annual award.

Verlander already has won the AL Cy Young Award after going 24-5 with a 2.50 earned-run average, and he is trying to become the first pitcher to win the MVP since Dennis Eckersley in 1992.

ESPN.com’s David Schoenfield believes Verlander is one of five candidates with a shot at the MVP. The others are Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury, New York’s Curtis Granderson, Toronto’s Jose Bautista and Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera.

The winner will be announced during a live broadcast on mlb.com starting at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
