Wyandotte Roosevelt High School Earns Michigan Green School Designation
Wayne County schools must actively participate in several green activities including recycling paper, plastic and electronics--to name a few.

The list of responsibilities for Wayne County schools to earn the Michigan Green School designation is a long one.
The list of schools that have earned the designation is much shorter. Wyandotte Roosevelt High School is on that list.

- Recycle paper, plastic and electronics.
- Implement a school-energy saving program.
- Establish or maintain an animal habitat project.
- Observe Earth Day.
Tina Weller, teacher at Roosevelt, said the program provided a perfect opportunity for students to get involved with the environment of the school.
"Students and teachers can learn how to become more energy efficient, help to lower utility costs, conserve resources and reduce waste," Weller said. "Green schools showcase a community's commitment to its students and their future."

The state's Green School designation requires schools participate in 10 "Green-sanctioned" activities throughout the school year, according to the release.
Roosevelt High School is one of 127 other Wayne County schools set to receive the acknowledgement at a ceremony set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Boyd Auditorium located at the Wayne County Regional Education Service Agency (RESA), 33500 Van Born Road, in Wayne.
