Minnesota Boy, 13, Dies After Firework Accident On Fourth Of July
Deputies say the 13-year-old was killed when a firework he was lighting exploded in the wrong direction.
MAHNOMEN COUNTY, MN — A 13-year-old boy died Friday night in Naytahwaush, Minnesota, after being struck by a firework during Fourth of July celebrations.
The boy was identified as Michael Turner of Naytahwaush, Minnesota Public Radio reported.
Turner was holding a lit firework in his hands, pointing it away from himself, according to authorities.

"When the firework went off it shot through the bottom of the tube and hit Turner in the chest," the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
"Another witness stated that the tube hit Turner in the chest."

First responders were called to the 300 block of New Circle Drive in Mahnomen County, where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The fatal fireworks incident remains under investigation.
