MN High School Shooting Leaves Student Critically Injured, Adult Dead
The shooting happened early Friday in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
STEWARTVILLE, MN — A high school student was critically injured, and a man was found dead early Friday after a shooting in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the school, located at 440 6th Avenue Southwest, around 5 a.m. after receiving reports of a person who had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies learned that two people had been shot.
Authorities said a school bus was parked in front of the building preparing to transport the wrestling team to a meet when a teammate was walking through the parking lot and a gunshot was heard. The student was found on the ground. As staff and students searched the area, a second gunshot was heard.

An adult male was then found lying on the ground with a rifle in his hand. Investigators believe the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The student was transported by Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. With permission from the family, authorities said the student is listed in critical but stable condition.

School staff and first responders established a reunification center, allowing students to be reunited with their families as quickly as possible. Counselors and chaplains were also on the scene to provide support.
The sheriff’s office said it has been in contact with both families involved, who are cooperating with the investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Our condolences go out to everyone impacted by this incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, asking the public to give those affected time and space to be with family and friends.
