1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured In Boat Crash On Mississippi River

A jon boat and a cabin cruiser crashed on the Mississippi River in Hastings, killing a man and seriously injuring a woman, authorities said.

HASTINGS, MN — A man is dead and a woman suffered serious injuries in a boat crash on the Mississippi River in Hastings Tuesday, according to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

On Sept. 29 at about 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to a collision between two boats on the Mississippi River near Kings Cove Marina.

The sheriff's office said that through witness statements, it learned that a jon boat collided with a cabin cruiser.

The two occupants of a jon boat — a man and a woman — were ejected into the water and were seriously injured, according to authorities. They were picked up by the cabin cruiser and given aid until first responders arrived, investigators said.

They were transported to Regions Hospital, where the man — identified as Dallas Larson, 59, of Hastings — died. The woman is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

The sheriff’s office said it continues to investigate the circumstance that led up to the crash, and "extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Larson."
