3 Apple Valley, Rosemount Bakers Serve Up Winning Treats at Minnesota State Fair

The results of the baking contests at this year's Minnesota State Fair highlight residents who are talented and prolific in the kitchen.

First-place finishes include a dark bundt cake from Apple Valley's Mary Johnson, whole-grain dinner rolls from Apple Valley's Fay Peterson and fruit-or-nut sweet rolls from Rosemount's Sue Smart. Each woman entered and placed in multiple other categories, as well.

Congratulations to all the Apple Valley and Rosemount residents whose baking entries placed in competition at the Minnesota State Fair this year:

• fourth place, gluten-free yeast bread

Fay Peterson, Apple Valley

• second place, coffee ring
• fourth place, whole-grain bread
• fourth place, apple pie
• fifth place, whole-wheat bread
• fifth place, sweet rolls with fruit or nuts
• fifth place, one-crust brownie pie

Sue Smart, Rosemount

• first place, sweet rolls with fruit or nuts
• fourth place, sweet rolls
• fifth place, oatmeal muffins
