5 More Eastview Students Win National Merit Scholarships

The five seniors have won scholarships sponsored by the colleges they'll attend in the fall.

Five seniors are among about 2,500 high school seniors nationwide to win a college-sponsored scholarship from the prestigious National Merit Scholarship program, according to a news release from the organization.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation this week released the names of the college-sponsored scholarship winners, its third group of winners in the annual scholarship program.

  • Reid Anderson, National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship; probable career field: computer science
  • Jane Kagan, National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship; probable career field: computer engineering
  • Andrew Solfest, National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship; probable career field: international business
  • Nitin Prasad, National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship; probable career field: engineering
  • Mikyla Carpenter, National Merit Carleton College Scholarship; probable career field: undecided

Most of these scholarships are renewable annually during four years of college, at anywhere from $500 to $2,000 per year.

One and 10 Eastview students , based on PSAT scores. All in the program, based on their regular SAT scores and outstanding academic performance.

Seven have received scholarships so far. Mariel Supina of Eastview , and Maren Loe of Apple Valley .

A fourth group of college-sponsored scholarship winners will be announced in July.

About 8,300 students will receive some type of scholarship from the program, either corporate-sponsored, college-sponsored or National Merit-sponsored.
