Amazon To Close Shakopee Sorting Facility As Lease Expires
Amazon said that all roughly 680 employees are being offered jobs elsewhere.

SHAKOPEE, MN — Amazon announced Monday that it plans to close the MSP5 sorting center in Shakopee. The company said that all roughly 680 employees are being offered jobs elsewhere.
Amazon has 10 different operations sites in the Twin Cities metro area, and the lease is expiring on the Shakopee sorting facility.
"We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees, customers, partners, and drivers," the company said in a statement.

"As part of that effort, we may close older sites, enhance existing facilities, or open new sites, and we weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites or maintain a presence. In this case, all employees at our facility in Shakopee are being offered opportunities to transfer to other facilities in and around the Twin Cities, or support if they choose not to stay with Amazon."
Amazon said they are working with employees to accommodate their scheduling preferences, and there will be no impact on customers.

In her own statement, Rep. Angie Craig said that she is "disappointed with Amazon’s decision to close their sorting facility in Shakopee and the impact it could have on many of the 680 people who work there."
