Backyard Chickens? Apple Valley Says 'No': Report

Apple Valley City Council recently voted to continue to prohibit keeping chickens on residential properties.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Apple Valley City Council recently voted to continue to prohibit keeping chickens on residential properties, according to a report by Sun Thisweek.

The city code was last amended in 2014 when City Council decided chickens should only be allowed on agricultural properties, the report said. However, the publication reported that there are fewer than 10 properties in the city are zoned as agricultural.

Other cities in Dakota County that allow chickens include Lakeville, Farmington, Rosemount, Eagan and Burnsville, according to the report.
