Could Apple Valley Residents Get Backyard Chickens?: Report

City Council will consider the issue in January, according to reports.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Apple Valley City Council will consider allowing residents to own backyard chickens at a January meeting, according to a report by Sun Thisweek.

Backyard chickens have been banned in Apple Valley since 2014, despite them being allowed in surrounding cities, the report said.

The city's Planning Commission voted unanimously in November to recommend that chickens only be allowed on properties zoned for agricultural use in the city, but only 10 Apple Valley properties are zoned for agricultural use, the publication reported.
