Officials Propose Plan to Expand, Improve County Road 50

To safely accommodate increasing traffic volumes, Dakota County intends to expand a prominent thoroughfare in nearby Lakeville.

Under the proposed plan, County Road 50, or Kenwood Trail, would grow from a three-lane design to a four-lane divided highway between County Road 60, or 185th Street, and County Road 9, Dodd Boulevard. The current roadway includes one lane in each direction and a center left turn lane.

The project would also include multi-use trail, drainage and intersection improvements.

Consistent with Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) requirements, Dakota County has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the proposed project, according to an alert. The primary goals of an EAW are to disclose details of the work; review the associated potential for environmental impacts; and identify anticipated environmental control or mitigation measures where needed.

An important part of the MEPA process is providing the public the opportunity for review and comment. Paper copies of the County Road 50 EAW are available for public review at the following locations:

Additionally, the EAW and other documents are available on the County Road 50 Expansion project website.

The County will accept written comments on the EAW during the 30-day public comment period. The comment period begins on Aug. 1, 2016, and ends at 5 p.m. on Aug. 31. Written comments (mail or email) should be addressed to:
