Dakota Electric To Pay For 5 Students To Go To D.C. For 'Youth Tour'

The NRECA annual Washington, D.C. Youth Tour will take place June 14-19 this year.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — Dakota Electric Association announced that it is paying for an all-expense trip for five high school students to travel to Washington D.C. for the National Rural Electric Association’s Youth Tour.

The students selected to go on the tour are:

  • Cloe Bechard- Eagan High School
  • Taryn Hillerud- Eagan High School
  • Madysen Leick- Eastview High School
  • Meti Negewo- Rosemount High School
  • Sarah Rauf- Lakeville North High School

The NRECA annual Washington, D.C. Youth Tour will take place June 14-19 this year, the association said. Over 1,800 high school students from across the country will attend and learn about government and electric cooperatives, according to Dakota Electric.

The students will also be able to tour Washington D.C. sites such as the Smithsonian, the U.S. Capitol and the Vietnam Memorial, and will also get to meet their elected officials, the association said.

"Dakota Electric is proud to sponsor local students to attend an event like the Washington, D.C. Youth Tour," President and CEO Greg Miller said. "At this Youth Tour, some of the nation’s brightest students gather together to have fun and learn about our government."
