Dec. 23 Added To Winter Break For ISD 196

The administration had recommended adding the extra day to Winter Break in anticipation of staffing shortages.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — Independent School District 196 announced that the School Board approved adding Dec. 23 to Winter Break.

The district said that it will continue to be above the minimum hours in school required by the state, even if an extra snow day is needed.

Childcare will be available through the YMCA for a fee for families with children in grades K-5, the district said.

Food will also be available for students to take home during the week of Dec. 23. Every Meal will provide two bags of food for any ISD 196 student to take home without any eligibility requirements, according to the district.

In the 2022-23 calendar, Dec. 23 was added as a no-school day and the last day of school was moved to Wednesday, June 7.

The district said it is also adding Kindergarten transition days, or half days, in August, with school fully starting for Kindergarteners in September.
