Eastview High School Named 5th Best in Minnesota

Apple Valley was ranked the 36th-best Minnesota high school by U.S. News and World Report's latest rankings.

has been named the fifth best public high school in Minnesota—and the 395th best in the country—by U.S. News and World Report.

In the ranking of top high schools released Tuesday, only No. 1 Minneapolis Southwest, No. 2 Edina, No. 3 Mahtomedi and No. 4 St. Louis Park topped Eastview in the state.

Apple Valley High School was ranked 36th in the state and 1,392 in the nation.

Nearly 22,000 schools were evaluated across the country, with the top schools receiving gold, silver or bronze medals. Eastview was awarded gold, which only went to 2 percent of the schools surveyed. Apple Valley received a silver medal.

U.S. News and World Report looked at how students performed on standardized tests versus others in the same state; how black, Hispanic and low-income students did relative to others; and how well a school prepared students for college. The rankings were further determined by factors that show the college readiness of students.

This was the fourth edition of U.S. News and World Report's high school rankings. The last rankings were published in 2009 and included information on 1,800 high schools.
