Five Things You Should Know Today: October 5

Getting used to this weather yet? We'll have a few more days of it, apparently.

  1. Today’s high temperature will be approaching 83, with sunny skies and south winds between 7 and 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Skies will stay mostly clear tonight, with a low around 55, and southeast winds between 7 and 9 mph. (The two best words in a weather forecast: “sunny” and “clear.”)
  2. Meet Mary Evanson Bleckwehl, author of “Henry! You’re Late Again!”, who will read from her book and meet her fans at 10:30 a.m. at the Wescott Library in Eagan. The event is for ages 4 through 8, and it’s free.
  3. Two big events today at Shannon Park Elementary School: It’s the second day of MAP testing, and it’s also picture day. Make sure the kids get a good breakfast and look handsome and/or beautiful for those photos.
  4. meet from 12:05 to 1 p.m. today at 7741 147th St. W. in Apple Valley. More information is available by calling Kimberly at (952) 997-7574, or by e-mail. Everyone is welcome.
  5. Rosemount Parks and Recreation is planning its second annual adult scavenger hunt, scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 6, and there’s no time like the present to start putting together your team. For more information or to register, call (651) 322-6000. The registration deadline is Oct. 29.
