Five Things You Should Know Today: October 6

Yes, yes, we need rain. But who doesn't love crunching through the leaves without wearing a jacket these days?

  1. The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies today, with a high near 79 and south-southeast winds from 5 to 8 mph, increasing to 15 to 18 mph. There’s a "red flag warning" for central and southern Minnesota through 7 p.m. today, meaning that dry conditions combined with strong winds increase the fire danger. Skies tonight will be partly cloudy, with a predicted low near 59.     
  2. A program on will be offered at 6:30 p.m. at Scott Highlands Middle School in Apple Valley. The program will focus on how nutrition can help rebalance and minimize the symptoms of ADD and ADHD.   5. Today is both German-American Day and Come and Take It Day. The first is pretty easy to figure out; as for Come and Take It Day, it originated in Gonzales, Texas, and commemorates the firing of the first shot of the Texas revolution in 1835. But feel free to interpret it however you like.
