Five Things You Should Know Today: September 27
Rain in the forecast! It's unbelievable! This almost never happens.

- The National Weather Service is calling for a 50 percent chance of showers today, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 64. Winds will be from the north and light, at 5 to 8 mph. There’s no mention of rain in tonight’s forecast, though, which calls for a low around 52 and winds becoming calm.
- The Rosemount Planning Commission meets at 7:30 tonight in Rosemount City Hall. The agenda includes a public hearing on an application by Feed Products North Inc. for a bulk material storage dome on the southeast corner of its site. The public is welcome to attend the meeting.
- Rosemount High School’s girls and boys varsity soccer teams both play Bloomington Kennedy in Bloomington today, the girls at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7:15 p.m.
- Two landmarks in Dakota County – the Waterford Bridge just northeast of Northfield, and Pilot Knob on the east end of the Mendota Bridge, south of Highway 55 – are among 25 statewide landmarks competing for $1 million in grants from the Partners in Preservation program to help preserve historic sites. For more information, visit the Partners in Preservation website, or vote on the organization’s Facebook page.
- Today is Gwyneth Paltrow’s 39th birthday. Have you seen her latest movie, “Contagion”? Totally creepy, but good – especially since a big chunk of it is set in the Twin Cities.
