Flint Hills To Build Solar Installation For Rosemount Refinery

ROSEMOUNT, MN — Flint Hills Resources announced that it is moving forward with plans to build a solar installation to power Pine Bend Refinery in Rosemount.

Flint Hills Resources said it is believed that this would be the largest solar installation of its kind in the country. The installation will be 45 megawatts and will include over 100,000 panels, according to Flint Hills.

The solar installation will help lower energy costs, improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, Flint Hills said.

“With this project we are improving our ability to provide the fuel people need in a way that will allow us to be more competitive today and well into the future,” Jeff Ramsey, president and CEO of Flint Hills Resources, said. “Our refinery operations are among the best in the world, and we continue to innovate and find new and better ways to produce and deliver the fuel and other petroleum-derived products that remain essential to the economy and modern life.”

Pine Bend Refinery in Rosemount supplies much of the upper Midwest's gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and more, Flint Hills said.

Flint Hills Resources was also recently named the EPA ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for 2022, which is the highest award bestowed by the EPA.
