Hastings Man Sentenced To Over 9 Years In 2020 Overdose

HASTINGS, MN — A Hastings man was sentenced Thursday to 9.5 years in prison in connection with the overdose death of Michelle Cahill, 50, in 2020, according to a news release from the Dakota County Attorney's Office.

Police allege that Jason Michael Slattum, 42, provided the heroin that caused Cahill to overdose. Slattum plead guilty to third degree murder in October, according to the news release.

Dakota County Attorney Kathryn Keena thanked Assistant County Attorney Chris Zielinski, who prosecuted the case, and praised Hastings Police Department and the Dakota County Drug Task Force for investigating Cahill's death.
