Lakeville Olympian Sets Record, Heads To Backstroke Finals

LAKEVILLE, MN — Lakeville Olympic athlete Regan Smith will be heading to the 100-meter backstroke finals, The Star Tribune reported.

Smith also achieved an Olympic record of 57.86 seconds-a record that was quickly demolished by Australia's Kaylee McKeown in the next heat, the publication reported.

Canada's Kylie Masse set the record at 58.17 seconds in the fourth heat, before Smith broke the record in the fifth heat and McKeown broke the record again in the sixth heat, the report said.

Smith will try for a medal on Tuesday, the publication said.
