MN Zoo Welcomes New Tiger, Luka
Luka, 16 months, will be introduced to his new habitat at the Zoo this week and will soon be more visible to guests.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Minnesota Zoo announced that it will continue its tiger conservation efforts with a new Amur tiger, Luka, from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Luka is 16 months and arrived at Minnesota Zoo last week, according to zoo officials.
Minnesota Zoo said it received a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Tiger Species Survival Plan to receive Luka after its previous Amur tiger Putin died last month during a routine procedure.

"While this opportunity came about quicker than anticipated, it’s one that will benefit Luka, who was at an age where he was ready to separate from his mother, and one that will support the Zoo’s dedication to tiger conservation by providing potential future breeding opportunities in the years ahead," Minnesota Zoo Director John Frawley said.
Since arriving, Luka has been adjusting to his new home in a behind-the-scenes habitat, the Zoo said. He will be introduced to his new habitat at the Zoo this week and will soon be more visible to guests, zoo officials said.
