Parts of Interstate 35W to Close this Weekend

Portions of the highway will be closed for construction, starting Friday night and ending early Monday morning.

Drivers, take note. Interstate 35W will be somewhat out of commission this weekend, which could spell substantial delays and lengthy detours for drivers in the south metro area.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week, that beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, the stretch of Interstate 35W between Highway 13 and the I-35/35W/I-35E split will close. The road will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12.

In the meantime, motorists will be redirected to a detour on I-494 and southbound I-35E.

During that time, yet another portion of the road will be reduced to a single lane: Northbound I-35 will be a single lane between County Road 50 and the I-35/35W/35E split. The lane reduction will go into effect earlier than the closure further north, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday. The northbound I-35 and County Road 46 ramps will also be closed. These lanes and ramps will likewise reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
