Trial Date Set for Minneapolis Man Accused of Burning Rosemount Girlfriend with Cigarettes

A Dakota County district judge found enough probable cause Wednesday to send a Minneapolis man to trial after he was accused of assaulting his Rosemount girlfriend multiple times.

Dakota County District Court Judge Shawn Moynihan set a settlement conference date for June 20 and a jury trial date—if necessary—for July 9 after Ryan Wayne Lewis waived his right to a speedy trial. 

Lewis, 33, is charged with with felony third-degree assault and felony domestic assault following a June 1 incident in Rosemount in which he allegedly  and used a drug to incapacitate her.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to the charges against him on Tuesday morning.

A review of Lewis' criminal record revealed felony convictions for the following crimes: 

• Receiving stolen property (1998)
• Fifth-degree controlled substance (1998)
• Domestic assault (1999)
• Second-degree controlled substance (2000)
• Fifth-degree controlled substance (2006)
• Domestic assault by strangulation (2007)
• Third-degree controlled substance (2007)

If convicted of the most recent charges against him, Lewis faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
