Tuskegee Airman's Tale, Musical Retrospective on Weekend Calendar

Some of our weekend events help you support your neighbors this weekend, whether by watching students compete in section and state tournaments or participating in a fundraiser for a family affected by cancer.

Why Go: See 100 local high schoolers perform a music and dance retrospective that spans 40 years, from the pop, blues rock and disco of the '60s and '70s, to contemporary hip hop and country from the 2000s. See a photo gallery from the students' preview performance here.

Cost: $9 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for students

When/Where: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday;

Why Go: Spend an hour and help save a life by donating blood to the American Red Cross. Type O donors are especially needed. Perfect for those who work during the week when other blood drives are scheduled.

When/Where: 11 a.m. Saturday;

Why Go: Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Joseph Gomer will share the remarkable story of the talented and courageous Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American squadron of fighter pilots. The Tuskegee Airmen fought the Nazis in the air and on the ground during World War II. Gomer is one of the few surviving squadron members.

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Inver Hills Community College

Why Go: Inver Hills students present the 1977 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama, which tells the story of three families dealing with terminal illness.

Cost: $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors

5.

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Goodwill offices in St. Paul

Why Go: Goodwill's fifth-annual bridal showcase aims to help you "find your dream dress for less." The event features more than 1,000 new and once-worn brides and bridesmaids dresses, as well as free alteration and wedding consults and refreshments. Even if you're not planning a wedding, it can still be fun to look at this free event.
