Meadow Ridge Porch Decorating Contest Opens For A Good Cause

Visit the Meadow Ridge neighborhoods in Rosemount before Dec. 20 to see the entries. The winner decides which charity to donate proceeds to.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — Voting is officially open for the Meadow Ridge Porch Decorating Contest, taking place in the Meadow Ridge neighborhoods in Rosemount.

19 households on Amiens and Ardroe Avenues are taking part in the holiday decorating contest, according to contest organizer Jennifer Lowman.

Each participating house has pitched in $10 and the winner of the contest gets to decide which charity the full amount of money gets donated to, Lowman told Patch. A few other homes are donating money but not decorating, she said.

If her house wins, Lowman told Patch she will be donating the money to Gifts for Seniors. Earlier in the pandemic, she collected Christmas cards for seniors who were in nursing homes or alone in the community.

For the contest, Lowman roped in future neighborhood resident Jennifer Bordonaro to help with the "tech" side. Bordonaro created a map of the houses participating in the contest, as well as a Google Form for voting.

Lowman said that this contest has brought the community closer together.

"I've started talking to neighbors I hadn't met yet," she said.

Bordonaro said the response to Lowman's original post about the contest got a lot of positive reactions.

"Everyone was chiming in, like, 'Yeah, that'd be so fun. That's a great idea,'" she said. "And there's a lot of people like myself who don't live there yet, who said 'We're not there this year, but we'll be in for next year!' It was kind of cool to see that excitement."

After you check out the different entries, you can vote here.
