UPDATE: AV Woman in Custody Following Motorcycle Crash on Lakeville/Apple Valley Border

The accident involving one vehicle and a motorcycle killed a man Thursday evening.

An Apple Valley woman is in custody following a two-vehicle crash near the Lakeville-Apple Valley border that killed a motorcyclist Thursday night.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Leah Marie Colwell, 44 of Apple Valley, was making a left-hand turn onto northbound Harwell Avenue from eastbound 160th Street. She is now in custody on suspicion of drunken driving and faces possible charges of criminal vehicular homicide. 

The motorcyclist, identified now as a 29-year-old Burnsville man, died at the scene.

His name will be released after family is notified, Dakota County officers said. 

The Dakota County Jail website on Friday morning says Apple Valley police arrested a woman at 8:05 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of four charges: felony criminal vehicular homicide-under the influence of alcohol, gross misdemeanor third-degree driving while impaired, gross misdemeanor driving after driver’s license cancellation and a misdemeanor open bottle violation. She was being held at the county jail.

The woman is scheduled to make her first appearance in Dakota County District Court in Hastings at 4 p.m. Friday.

This is the second fatal crash involving a motorcycle in or near Lakeville in the past week. Last Saturday, a 26-year-old Claremont, MN man died in a crash on Cedar Avenue near 202nd Street.
