Workers At 33 Cub Foods Stores Will Strike Before Easter: List

TWIN CITIES, MN — Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 who work at Cub Foods announced Wednesday their plans to strike during the two days before Easter. Workers are striking to combat what they call unfair labor practices and demand higher wages in a new contract.

According to the union, about 95 percent of workers at the 33 stores voted to authorize a strike Tuesday.

Mike Wilken — a spokesman for Cub's parent company — told the Star Tribune they were "deeply disappointed that the union elected to spend [Tuesday] taking a strike authorization vote instead of using that time to meet with us to reach an agreement on terms for a new contract."

The strike will impact 33 Twin Cities metro Cub stores. It will start at 5:30 a.m. Friday and last through Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Workers will picket outside the stores during the daytime hours.

"We want to be paid for what we've been through the last five years," said Jill Craig, a union spokeswoman, during Wednesday's news conference.

Cub stores are scheduled to be open on Easter Sunday.
