Burnsville Woman Charged with Stabbing Herself, Husband
Lisa Christine Breen faces felony assault charges.

A Burnsville woman is facing felony assault charges after authorities say she stabbed herself and her husband last week.
Lisa Christine Breen, 26, who lives in the 1600 block of McAndrews Road West, faces two counts of second-degree assault, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
According to the complaint against Breen, Burnsville police were called to Breen’s home on the evening of June 16 and found a man holding his chest and complaining of shortness of breath.

The man told police that Breen had recently heard some news about a family member, after which she began drinking and “got violent,” according to the complaint. When he heard her scream, he went in to check on her and found that she had stabbed herself; as he leaned over to check on her, she pulled out the knife and stabbed him, the complaint says.
The victim went to a neighbor’s house for help, but finding nobody home, returned to his house, went into the bathroom and called 911, the complaint says. When he emerged from the bathroom, he found Breen unconscious, so he took the knife with him and put it by the front door, according to the complaint.
The victim was treated for a collapsed lung.
When police interviewed Breen, she had a large blood stain on her shirt on the left side of her abdomen, according to the complaint, though she told police that she didn’t know why she was bleeding.
Breen asked police, “Did I do this?” and said, “We don’t have a bad home, just a bad night,” according to the complaint. She admitted drinking several small bottles of champagne that evening, the complaint says.
In a subsequent interview with police, Breen claimed not to remember much about the evening because she had passed out, but she said she remembered her husband saying, “You stabbed me, you stabbed me,” according to the complaint.
Breen remains in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings. She is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charges on Thursday.
