Community Fundraises For Statue Of 'Father Of Burnsville Hockey'

The completed statue would be placed in Burnsville Ice Center.

BURNSVILLE, MN — The Burnsville community is working to raise funds to build a statue of Burnsville High School hockey coach Tom Osiecki and place the statue at the Burnsville Ice Center.

According to the GoFundMe's description, Nick Legeros has been commissioned to build the statue. Legeros built the Sid Hartman sculpture at The Target Center in Minneapolis and the Goldy Gopher statue at the University of Minnesota, Pete Heunisch, the fundraiser's organizer, said in the description.

Osiecki founded the Burnsville hockey program, coaching from 1966-1990, Heunisch said. After scouting for the Minnesota North Stars and the Dallas Stars for a few years, he returned to Burnsville in 1996 and coached girl's hockey, the description said.

Heunisch said that the group, made up of people who were coached by Osiecki, hopes to unveil the statue in February for the Ice Center's 50th anniversary.

"We would like to remember Tom as the Father of Burnsville Hockey and we cannot think of a better way," the description said.
