PHOTOS: Inside the Black Dog Power Plant
Thursday, the mayor and other city officials toured Xcel's Black Dog Power Plant, which is in the process of switching from coal to natural gas.
Xcel Energy is in the midst of retiring its last two coal-burning units at the Black Dog plant, a process which began in 2002 when half its units were replaced with natural gas burning turbines. The switchover will complete the process.
Last Thursday, the plant hosted a delegation including Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, City Manager Craig Ebeling, Council Member Mary Sherry, Chief Financial Officer Tammy Omdal, one private citizen and Burnsville Patch.
Here's a look inside the iconic plant, which has punctuated the Burnsville city skyline since the 1950s.
